Who we are
The Forum for Free Speech (FFS) exists as a student-run committee to fund speaking events on Swarthmore’s campus. These include talks and symposiums, as well as some components of workshops. FFS is committed to supporting diverse voices and perspectives. These events may be hosted by any of the various student groups on campus, as well as by individuals.
When evaluating funding proposals, FFS considers the amount of expenditure, the speaker’s credentials, and community interest, among other factors. FFS approves full funding for a majority of the proposals that it receives. In the instances where not all requested funds are approved, FFS collaborates with event proposers to find other funding sources and to ensure that the event still takes place.
After funding is approved, the FFS director will provide you with the necessary forms and information to secure and transfer the funds to the speaker(s).
